Supporting Sobriety One Stride at a Time

The Nation's Largest Sober Running/Walking Program

Strides in Recovery is a nonprofit organization that helps newly sober individuals grow physically, emotionally, and mentally stronger so they can do their best at the hard work of recovery. We achieve this goal by leading walking and running groups for people in Los Angeles County addiction  treatment programs, by encouraging participation in events from 5Ks to marathons, and by hosting events that connect participants, alumni, and the recovery community.

Our Impact

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the current first-year post-addiction treatment relapse rate in the US is 40-60%.  While people often leave treatment with the will and the knowledge to stay sober, their brains are not always healed enough to support the decision making needed to practice these new habits.  Regular exercise not only speeds this healing, it reinforces the life skills and the mindset needed to support recovery. It's also a great way to replace the high of using.  And that's why we bring recovery-focused walking/running programs to addiction treatment communities. We empower people with a clinically proven tool to support long term sobriety. To learn about the science behind the healing power of regular exercise, click HERE.

Get Involved

Walk, jog or run with our teams.  If you can move forward while making supportive conversation, and want to help newly sober individuals experience the many physical, emotional, and mental health benefits of regular exercise, become an assistant coach/mentor.  For more information about volunteering, click HERE.
